How My Expertise Areas Come Together

Integration of Expertise Areas

My Final Bachelor Project, HoldOn, shows how the expertise areas strengthened each other when considered as a system.

User and Society formed the starting point. Understanding older adults’ experiences of phone scams shaped Technology and Realisation, because the system could not simply be technically impressive; it had to adapt to users’ needs, support different levels of control, and be understandable in the moment of receiving a call.

Creativity and Aesthetics made the system feel calm, trustworthy and intuitive. The tone of voice, pacing of explanations, interface hierarchy and visual identity helped users understand what was happening and what they could do next.

Math, Data and Computing connected through the logic behind the system. HoldOn translated scam behaviours, such as urgency, authority and suspicious company claims, into structured risk classifications. If developed further, a market-ready version would require a trained AI model based on comprehensive scam data.

Business and Entrepreneurship connected these areas to real-world impact through adoption, onboarding, support networks, pricing, partnerships and the role of family members, carers, charities and telecom providers.

Overall, HoldOn showed me that strong design does not come from developing each expertise area separately, but from understanding how they influence each other. User insight shaped the technology, technology created new interaction possibilities, aesthetics made the system understandable and reassuring, data structured the intelligence behind the service, and business thinking made the concept realistic enough to reach users.
